What do you know now that you wish you knew when entering UNM?
When entering UNM, I wish that I knew that classes fill up fast! Emailing professors and planning out your schedule is so helpful especially if you are like me, from out of state and at the last New Student Orientation, and there are no open spots at the time of registration in the classes you initially wanted.

What are your favorite events around Albuquerque?
I loved going to the International Balloon Fiesta! I have never been to Albuquerque and this was hands down the best event I have been to since arriving in Albuquerque! I also loved traveling to Santa Fe and seeing the cute boutiques and restaurants there.

What advice would you give to an incoming UNM student?
I would say that everyone else is going through the same thing you are. Regardless of the circumstances, this is new territory for everyone so ask so many questions and don’t be afraid to laugh at yourself because we are all learning the ropes.

What are you looking forward to most during this semester?
I am looking forward to the Hanging of the Greens, a UNM holiday tradition! It is the oldest student tradition and is one of the largest luminaria displays. This is something I can’t wait to not only see, but be apart of!

Meet Anna J.

We are embarking on week 6. That means the halfway marker for the spring semester and spring break – the only days of school we get off for all of second semester – are only two weeks away. At this point, Bursars have been paid or payment plans have been chosen, $50 textbook after $50 […]

It is starting to feel a lot more like spring in ABQ and I couldn’t help but want to be outside this last weekend. While the plan was to go camping, the week before spring break and all of the midterms makes it a little too hard. So, I had to compromise with my course […]

A few weekends ago I had the opportunity to be a group leader for the annual Society of Women Engineers (SWE) Art of Science event. It was the third year of putting on the event. Our last president started the event right here at UNM. With more sponsors, collaborations, and volunteers, it gets better every […]

The weekend after the second week of school I boarded a plane to San Diego for the WE Local 2020 Society of Women Engineers Conference. I will not lie; it was challenging to pick up and leave for three days when I was barely into the semester, but it turned out to be so much […]

During the fall semester, I got to participate in a really cool program through the New Mexico Alliance for Minority Participation NM AMP. This was one of the opportunities that I heard about from the College Enrichment Program. I met with CEP over the summer to try to find some opportunities that would fund me […]
