Why Peru?
I chose Peru because as a Mexican-American woman I have a huge interest in Latin American countries. Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to visit Mexico, but I am extremely curious about countries in South America. Peru is a region that is extremely connected to its culture and indigenous past and I am excited to go and experience it. I hope to learn about a new society and culture and establish similarities and differences they have to my own.

What is the most important thing you're taking abroad and why?
Although this may seem extremely stereotypical of a Gen Z kid, my cellphone is the most important thing I will be taking abroad. My cellphone will allow me to document things I see and to share that with those who are not with me. I will be able to communicate with people at home, but also keep in touch with the people I meet in Peru.

What are you looking forward to most about studying abroad?
What I am looking forward to the most studying abroad would be my classes and the weekends. During my classes, I will be able to take in a new culture of academia, but the weekends will be reserved for exploring. I hope to explore within the city such as local markets, and along the coast by the beach in Lima.

If you could go back to and give your freshman self some advice, what would that be?
To my freshman self, I would tell her to not worry so much about my abilities throughout college. Things will work out like they are supposed to, and it is my job to make the best of it. You belong and you will succeed.

For about two weeks, I was making sure my finances, contacts, everything was in line; now, I am a little more at ease this second time coming around. Being home for a short amount of time did not […]

Altitude Sickness

One of the beauties of studying abroad is testing new limits for yourself. Having a daily routine tends to put us in a comfort zone that could easily become restricting. Because I have always lived in ABQ and the mountains are easily down the street, I thought I knew everything there is to know about […]
