What surprised you the most about UNM?
How huge the campus is! I got lost during my international orientation, and I’ll probably still get lost many more times to come.

What’s your best UNM experience so far?
So far, I’ve enjoyed meeting other international students and locals. I’m excited to see that this place is so culturally diverse and welcoming! My apartment is filled with guys from different countries. We’re like the mini United Nations and that is a beautiful thing.

What are your plans after college?
I’d love to continue my singing career here in New Mexico and find ways to infuse rhythms from my country, the Bahamas with some of the Latin and Native American flair.

How is Albuquerque different from Nassau?
Albuquerque has absolutely beautiful mountains with little to no water and the Bahamas has absolutely beautiful water with no mountains! Yet, both places have beautiful weather almost year round.

Being an amputee and wearing a prosthetic can sometimes feel like someone who has been on the job for almost 24 hours; it just gets very tiring. The amount of limb soreness that an amputee goes through can put a damper on anyone’s day, because it’s not an easy thing to deal with. However, I believe […]

The Bear Necesssities

I knew when I started school at the University of New Mexico that I would be involved with the opera program. What I did not know is that my first opera would be about “cuddly, wuddly; find me some honey,” bears  :). This semester, the music department at UNM will perform The Trial of Goldilocks, The Bear, Star Bird, A Hand of Bridge and Elisha and The Bears.

I am excited to be a part of this entire production, to sing along with other wonderful singer  and to be able to have a lead role in one of the operas.

So, if you’re looking for something to do in November, here’s something for ya!

All you really need in life are, “The bear necessities.”

It is my belief that if you’re from out of town, one of the most important events to experience is the Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta. Last week, I woke up at the crack of dawn with my roommates and a few friends to go and experience this phenomenon for the very first time! We arrived at […]

So, here’s the thing… One thing I love about this campus and the fact that it’s an ‘open campus’ and that there are always artistic events going on. From 3D Chalk Drawing, Tai Chi, Wicked at the Popejoy, to Art Exhibits; UNM is filled with many activities to experience and be a part of! The […]

New Mexico has a lot of things going for itself. One important thing is its chile! The moment I spoke about moving to New Mexico, my friend told me about how the natives add chile to just about everything. I was a little afraid about all of this, because I’m not a huge fan of […]
