Why Peru?
I chose Peru because as a Mexican-American woman I have a huge interest in Latin American countries. Throughout my life, I have been lucky enough to visit Mexico, but I am extremely curious about countries in South America. Peru is a region that is extremely connected to its culture and indigenous past and I am excited to go and experience it. I hope to learn about a new society and culture and establish similarities and differences they have to my own.

What is the most important thing you're taking abroad and why?
Although this may seem extremely stereotypical of a Gen Z kid, my cellphone is the most important thing I will be taking abroad. My cellphone will allow me to document things I see and to share that with those who are not with me. I will be able to communicate with people at home, but also keep in touch with the people I meet in Peru.

What are you looking forward to most about studying abroad?
What I am looking forward to the most studying abroad would be my classes and the weekends. During my classes, I will be able to take in a new culture of academia, but the weekends will be reserved for exploring. I hope to explore within the city such as local markets, and along the coast by the beach in Lima.

If you could go back to and give your freshman self some advice, what would that be?
To my freshman self, I would tell her to not worry so much about my abilities throughout college. Things will work out like they are supposed to, and it is my job to make the best of it. You belong and you will succeed.

Lima, the city of many wonders

For the past three weeks I have been in Lima, Peru. Time is actually going by pretty quick considering that I am only in Peru for a semester and still have a lot to learn and explore. For one, jumping from super dry heat to a humid cold winter was a slight shock (luckily, I […]

T-Minus 50 x 2

As I get ready to leave, I can’t help but think that this opportunity is a result of generational sacrifice. I have been anticipating this experience since I began college, it was inevitablebecause I was determined to study abroad. Some stress had definitely come with the process of organizing everything for my program. I thought that because […]
